Revisiting My First Romance: The Journey Continues

I’m diving into my next rewrite a little earlier than I expected. On June 22, I released The Chevalier and His Unlikely Lady (originally published in 2012 under the title LeChevalier). Releasing the novel first, then turning around to build a website and social media presence post-launch probably isn’t considered best practice—but it all came together faster than I anticipated. Now that the foundation is in place, I’m eager to turn the page and start the next project.

Revisiting My “First” Novel

That next project is a revision and re-release of Caution to the Wind, first published in 2013. Consider that a working title for now, as I’m fairly certain it will change before the new edition is ready. A little fun fact: Caution to the Wind was actually the first novel I ever wrote, even though LeChevalier found a publisher and made it into print first. Coming back to the story that started it all feels both nostalgic and energizing.

A More Ambitious Revision

This revision will be a bit more ambitious than the work I did on The Chevalier and His Unlikely Lady. I’ll be tightening the prose, sharpening the pacing, and taking a hard look at several scenes that are likely to get deep, structural edits.

As with The Chevalier and His Unlikely Lady, I’ll be removing explicit intimacy and focusing on deepening the emotional core of the relationship. The result won’t quite fit the “sweet” romance label, but it will be a clean romance—one that leans into emotional depth rather than explicit content.

Barring any major client projects that keep me working long hours, the plan is to get this one wrapped up and out the door before the holidays.
